The Sunshine City
John C. Williams and Peter Demens founded St. Petersburg in 1888 at the end of the Orange Belt Railway; Demens won a coin toss and named it after the Russian city. It later logged 768 consecutive sunny days between 1967 and 1969, a Guinness record.
